Bentley to offer super-fast in-car internet from 2019

Stream HD video or join a video conference call while being chauffeured along

The Bentley Advanced Connectivity Wi-Fi System, a new high-speed in-car internet solution, will be offered in the luxury automaker's cars from 2019.

The Advanced Connectivity Wi-Fi System is supplied by Viasat, a company which primarily delivers satellite internet services to commercial airlines and government organisations.

Bentley's system uses multi-channel virtual private network technology to aggregate up to three mobile network signals into one fast and secure internet connection. The internet-facing modem and internal Wi-Fi router are all housed discretely within the car's boot lid.

Having multiple mobile service providers should, hopefully, eliminate coverage gaps in all but the most remote of locations, as well as maintain connectivity and high throughput when the car is travelling at freeway speeds.

The company claims the setup will allow clients to connect to video calls, be present in multiple meetings, access cloud-based services, or stream multiple high-definition online videos all from the comfort of the back seat, even when barrelling along at 110km/h or more.

Bentley says it will begin offering its Advanced Connectivity Wi-Fi System in all of its models from 2019, but has not announced pricing yet.

Australia

Bentley Advanced Connectivity will be available in Australia and New Zealand in October 2019 on Mulsanne and Bentayga.
