Lexus RC F ‘GT’ spied at the Nurburgring

Motorsport-inspired performance coupe spotted doing rounds at Germany's iconic circuit.

A prototype believed to be the upcoming Lexus RC F GT has been spied again, this time during performance testing at the Nurburgring race track in Germany.

Believed to be the production version of the 2015 RC F GT concept which attempted the Pikes Peak Hillclimb of the same year, this vehicle wears various body add-ons inspired by the motorsport-themed concept.

There's a large fixed rear wing – albeit smaller than the concept version – along with extended rear guards and bumper, a carbon-fibre bonnet, and a more aggressive frontal treatment.

Expect the production version to use more carbon-fibre than the RC F Carbon in an effort to reduce weight, and that approach could extend to the cabin too – think removal of the rear seats, lighter front seats and so on, to improve on the 6.6kg weight saving afforded by the RC F Carbon.

Other changes will likely include lowered and firmer suspension than the standard car, model-specific wheels, and a louder exhaust system.

It's unclear whether the GT will uprate the 5.0-litre naturally-aspirated V8's 351kW/530Nm outputs, though we do know the same engine in the flagship LC500 makes 10Nm more, so there's definitely some room to move.

The RC F GT would be a fitting send-off to the current-generation RC, which has just received a facelift (due in Australia before the year's end), and has been in production since 2014 – so expect a late-2019 or early-2020 debut as the current RC reaches the end of its life cycle.
