Aston Martin DBS 59 revealed – UPDATE

Q by Aston Martin – the marque's bespoke division – has revealed the DBS 59, a very limited edition commemorating the DBR1's historic win at Le Mans in 1959.

UPDATE, 2/11/18: Aston Martin's local division has confirmed the DBS 59 will only be available through Aston Martin's Cambridge dealer in the UK.

Based on the DBS Superleggera, the DBS 59 is limited to just 24 examples, one for every hour of the endurance race – 24 Hours of Le Mans, for the uninitiated.

Each vehicle features bespoke design features, special interior trims and graphics inside and out which hark back to the DBR1.

Outside, the DBS 59 is finished in Aston Martin Racing Green, gloss carbon-fibre components for the roof and bonnet louvres, along with bronze detailing for the front grille surround, 'Superleggera' bonnet badging, 'Aston Martin' badging at the rear, along with the 'Q' fender badging.

The interior is trimmed in Obsidian Black and Chestnut Tan leather, accented with fabric inspired by the material used in the DBR1's seat material for the seat backs and door inserts.

Other special bits include Aston Martin Green accents in the cabin, '59' embroideries in the seat backrest, along with special 'Q by Aston Martin' touches like Saddle Leather helmet pods (to house the 'DBS 59' crash helmets), racing gloves and suits, and a bespoke two-piece luggage set with matching trim to the interior.

As with the 'standard' DBS Superleggera, the DBS 59 edition is powered by a 5.2-litre twin-turbo V12 developing 533kW and 900Nm, making for a 0-100 claim of 3.4 seconds, and a 0-200 claim of 6.4 seconds. Top speed, meanwhile, is rated at 340km/h – making it the fastest production Aston Martin, ever.

"When Aston Martin Cambridge expressed a desire to create a limited run of DBS Superleggeras inspired by the DBR1’s famous Le Mans victory we knew it had to be something special," said Simon Sproule, Aston Martin's vice president.

"My favourite element on the ‘DBS 59’ are the seat backs that feature fabric inspired by the DBR1 seat material, but there are countless touches that will intrigue and delight."

"The soft metallic hue of the Aston Martin Racing Green paintwork is classy and timelessly beautiful; the level of thought and detailing is exceptional," he added.

Aston Martin's DBR1 is one of the company's rarest and most desirable vehicles. Just five were built between 1956 and 1959, and when one last went to auction at Monterey in 2017, it sold for a whopping £17.5 million ($31.59m) – setting a new record as the most valuable British-made car ever.

The 24 DBS 59 units are now available to order from Aston Martin Cambridge, though pricing hasn't been announced – though we reckon if you're thinking of buying one, you won't be asking anyway.

Aston Martin's local division has confirmed the DBS 59 is solely available through the company's Cambridge dealership in the UK. Shame.
