2019 BMW 8 Series convertible leaked

Soft-top seen for the first time completely free of disguise one day ahead of its official reveal.

The BMW 8 Series Convertible has been revealed via a set of leaked press photos a day ahead of its full debut.

Published by Belgian site AutoTijd, these photos of the new 8 Series Convertible reveal little that's jaw-gapingly surprising, as our last set of spy photos, taken last month, showed the car practically camouflage-free.

We don't know any technical details about the new 8 Series Convertible, but we expect it be offered, at least initially, with the same set of drivetrains as has been announced for the coupe.

For the fixed-roof model, the M850i xDrive features a 390kW/750Nm 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 capable of completing the 0-100km/h run in 3.7 seconds.

There's also a 840d xDrive model with a 235kW/680Nm 3.0-litre six-cylinder turbo-diesel, and a claimed 0-100km/h time of 4.9 seconds

Overnight, the company also released photos of the 8 Series coupe shot during filming in Venice for its upcoming advertising campaign.

For these ads BMW gained permission from the local government to erect special pontoons to allow the 8 Series coupe to zip along the canals past the city's famous palazzi and under the Rialto bridge.

Australia

BMW has yet to confirm local timing for the new 8 Series range, but expect the coupe to launch Down Under some time in 2019.
