Kia Forte Drift Car revealed with Stinger engine

Sedate sedan turned into a rear-wheel drive drifting monster

Designed in collaboration with Red Bull, the Kia Forte Drift Car is now on display at SEMA 2018 in Las Vegas.

Although the Drift Car started life as an off-the-shelf Forte – Cerato to us – sedan, it now has the Stinger GT's 3.3-litre twin-turbo V6 crammed under the bonnet and aligned north-south thanks to "some tricky engineering".

The twin-turbo V6 has a custom intake manifold and is said to develop 280kW of power in this application. It's hooked up to the rear wheels via a six-speed sequential transmission and a quick-change rear differential.

Riding on hybrid drift/grip suspension, the Forte Drift Car has been designed to spend its working life going sideways.

Other changes include a hydraulic rear handbrake, wide-body extensions, a roll cage, and a unique aerodynamics package including a large rear diffuser, high-rise rear wing, and enough spoilers to ruin an entire season of Doctor Who.

The car we know was the Cerato is sold in North America as the Forte, and in South Korea as the K3.

If you have Renault Clio V6-type itch you want to scratch, Kia seems unwilling to oblige. The company says the Drift Car is one-of-a-kind vehicle and will be the hottest Stinger-powered Cerato/Forte/K3 "you’ll never be able to buy".
