Jaguar F-Type Chequered Flag revealed, priced from $139,650

Special-edition sports car celebrates 70 years since the iconic XK 120.

Jaguar has announced the F-Type Chequered Flag, commemorating seven decades since the original XK 120 was launched in 1948.

Based on the R-Dynamic specification, the special-edition F-Type can be had in both coupe and convertible body styles, and is offered with both turbocharged four-cylinder and supercharged V6 engines.

Defining features include a Windsor leather interior with embossed performance seats, Ebony suede headliner, a red 12 o'clock marker for the steering wheel, dark brushed aluminium dash fascia, Chequered Flag branding and badging throughout the exterior and interior, along with the Touch Pro infotainment system featuring Apple CarPlay and Android Auto – a first beyond the all-electric I-Pace model line.

The Chequered Flag also benefits from the Exterior Black Design Pack, 20-inch gloss black alloys with diamond-turned finish, and SVO extended side sills for a wider stance.

Power comes from the choice of a 221kW/400Nm 2.0-litre turbo four, a 250kW/450Nm 3.0-litre supercharged V6, or a 280kW/460Nm 3.0-litre supercharged V6.

Regardless of engine, all Chequered Flag editions feature an eight-speed 'Quickshift' automatic transmission, while drive is sent to the rear wheels across all powertrains as standard through the top-shelf 280kW V6 can be had with all-wheel drive.

Pricing in the UK starts from £62,335 ($112,842) and are available to order now.

Further to the special-edition, Jaguar UK has announced some upgrades to the wider F-Type range, including some enhancements for the V8-powered 'R' borrowed from the flagship SVR.

Dubbed '20MY' enhancements, the F-Type R now gets a new damper tune – reduced by 24 per cent at lower damping velocities while increasing overall capacity by "up to 30 per cent" – for improved low-speed ride comfort. The R has also adopted the SVR's rear upper ball joint, and gets a modified rear knuckle and upper control arm for enhanced "capability and system robustness".

Rounding out the model-year changes is the standard inclusion of a rear-view camera and front parking sensors across the range.
