2019 BMW 8 Series Convertible headed to LA – report

Drop-top 8er to debut in Los Angeles before market launch in 2019.

The BMW 8 Series Convertible is on track for a production reveal at the Los Angeles motor show next month, according to a new report.

An article by Carscoops says the drop-top 8 Series will be fully unveiled at the US motor show in November, likely with the same powertrain range as its coupe twin.

That means the line-up will be headlined (at launch) by the M850i xDrive, powered by a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 petrol putting out 390kW and 750Nm of torque, good for a sub-4.0 second 0-100 sprint time.

An entry-level 840d inline six diesel should also be offered in markets like Europe, though it may not be on show in LA given the States don't really like oilers. In the coupe, the 840d features a 3.0-litre inline six turbo-diesel making 235kW and 680Nm.

Other models making their Stateside premiere in LA will be the all-new 3 Series sedan, X7 SUV, and the Z4 sports car.

The Los Angeles motor show kicks off on November 30. Stay tuned to CarAdvice for our coverage.
