2019 Porsche 911 spied alongside 991.2-gen

What do you think of the latest take on Porsche's classic rear-engined sports car?

The upcoming 2019 Porsche 911 has been sighted testing alongside the current 991.2-generation model, giving us a clearer look at how the world's favourite rear-engined sports car will evolve.

A few things are clear in the pictures: the new-generation car, likely to launch at the Los Angeles motor show, will have a more upright snout than the car it replaces, and it appears to have grown broader through the hips.

The classic round 911 headlights are present and correct, bearing a revised quad-LED lighting signature this time around, while there appears to be a more pronounced ridge running down the front bonnet.

Although the engineers have been tricky with the black paint, the current trio of air intakes sitting in the front bumper look like they've been made taller.

Down back, the 911 appears to take its inspiration from the Panamera, with slimmer tail-lights linked by a red strip. A vertically-slatted air intake still features, but it's been made rounder and slimmer by the looks of these pictures.

The number plate has been integrated into the rear diffuser/bumper unit, while the central tailpipes have been subbed for wider-set quads. As with all Porsche models, expect the diffuser layout and exhaust system to vary wildly based on variant.

Regardless of model, Porsche is expected to make the new 911 a much wider vehicle, with more aggressively flared rear guards.

Under the skin, a range of turbocharged flat-six petrol engines is expected to feature, along with the potential for a hybrid variant. A wider range of driver assistance features than before are expected to feature, while the interior will move to a more modern, Panamera-inspired design.

The classic five-dial cluster will still feature, but it's expected to follow the Panamera with an analogue central tacho and screens either side.

Porsche is expected to unveil the new 911 at the Los Angeles motor show in November. Stay tuned to CarAdvice for all the latest coverage in the lead up.
