2019 Ford Focus ST spied undisguised

This is our closest look yet at the new-generation hot hatch – what do you think?

The all-new Ford Focus ST has been spied without any camouflage this week near the Nurburgring in Germany, indicating an official debut isn't far away.

Here we can see the more aggressive body kit compared to the ST-Line variant of the standard Focus, while large alloy wheels (a design available on the previous Focus ST) fill the arches.

Out back we can see a prominent diffuser insert with dual tailpipes – one at either end – and a bigger spoiler mounted at the end of the roof. Under the skin you can expect lowered sports suspension and larger brakes than regular Focus models.

We still don't know for sure what will feature under the bonnet of the new Focus ST, though a turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine is all but certain. Expect it to measure 2.3 litres in capacity – at least, if this sticker is anything to go by – sending around 200kW to the front wheels through a six-speed manual.

As for timing, we reckon the Focus ST will make its production debut in the coming months, potentially at the Los Angeles motor show in November. Should that prove accurate, Australian deliveries should commence in the second half of next year.

The new-generation Focus range is about to hit local showrooms, scheduled for a market launch in December. Click here for more images of the Focus ST prototype.
