Toyota Prius, Prius V recalled
Well, re-recalled. More than 8400 vehicles are included.
Toyota has re-recalled a batch of Prius and Prius V hybrids, over concerns the fix provided to the power management ECU on both models wasn't sufficient first-time around.
According to the company, affected vehicles are fitted with faulty power management ECU software. In the event of an issue, it's meant to put the car in a 'fail-safe mode' and illuminate the relevant warning lights, along with flashing a warning message on the in-dash display.
It should also allow the car to travel for short distances at low speed, but affected cars could send the hybrid system into full shutdown under certain conditions.
If the hybrid system shuts down, the vehicle could lose power while driving, increasing the risk of a crash. This recall is an "additional remedy" to the vehicles involved in previous recalls, as the 2014/15 recall was "found to be inadequate" in trying to rectify the problem.
A total of 8466 cars are included in the recall – a VIN list is attached here.
Toyota will contact owners of the impacted vehicles and advise them to arrange a free fix.
