Audi R8 Competition Package announced for the USA

Audi of America has announced a super-limited version of its R8 supercar, dubbed the Competition Package.

Claimed to be the "brand's most performance-oriented production R8 model ever produced", the Competition Package is capped at just 10 units for the United States.

Key highlights include the full gamut of Audi Sport parts – first revealed in July last year – including a full carbon-fibre body kit, which increases downforce by twofold at 150km/h compared to the 'standard' R8 V10 Plus (52kg), and by 100kg at 315km/h.

Other appointments for this edition include Suzuka Gray paint, black racing seats with red top-stitching, an exterior black package that dons the grille, along with the front and rear air inlets an black, 'Dynamic' steering system, a full leather interior (upper and lower dash, door and side panels), a 13-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system, and performance brake pads with titanium backing plates.

There's also three-way adjustable coilover suspension, an Alcantara steering wheel with red 12 o'clock marker, carbon-fibre paddle shifters, and 20-inch matte black wheels shod in summer tyres.

US pricing for the R8 Competition Package kicks off at US$237,350 ($333,880) excluding taxes, with the limited-edition supercar scheduled to hit North American dealers in November.

CarAdvice has contacted Audi's local division about the introduction of a similar model for the Australian market.

When the Audi Performance parts were revealed last year, Audi Australia was unable to confirm availability for our market.
