2019 Ford Mustang Ecoboost pricing and specs

Updated four-cylinder pony hits Aussie showrooms from $49,990, headlined by extra kit to offset a $4000 higher entry price.

Ford Australia has announced pricing and specifications for the new 2019 Mustang Ecoboost, joining the V8-powered GT models that arrived in local showrooms earlier this year.

Priced from $49,990 plus on-road costs for the Ecoboost Fastback manual, the MY19 model is a significant $4000 dearer than the model it replaces, though this is offset by an increase in standard specification.

Features include a customisable 12.4-inch digital instrument binnacle, upgraded cabin materials compared to the outgoing version, a 1000W 12-speaker B&O Play sound system, full-LED headlights, daytime-running lights and tail-lights, 19-inch black alloy wheels, Brembo brakes, and an active exhaust system with quad tailpipe finishers like the V8-powered GT.

As for technology, the 2019 Mustang Ecoboost benefits from the addition of autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning with lane-keep assist, along with automatic high-beam. The 8.0-inch Sync 3 infotainment system with satellite navigation, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto is carried over, too.

Specification largely mirrors that of the GT, with the exception of what's under the bonnet. The Ecoboost is powered by a version of the 2.3-litre four-cylinder turbo petrol found in the Focus RS hyper hatch, now making 224kW and 441Nm – 9kW down on the outgoing model, but with 9Nm more torque.

Drive is sent to the rear wheels via a six-speed manual as standard, with the company's new 10-speed automatic with paddle shifters available as a $3000 option on the Fastback (standard on convertible versions).

The manual shifter has been upgraded with a dual-mass flywheel to "deliver more efficient clutch modulation, delivering improved NVH and higher torque capability", Ford says in its press release.

Options mirror that of the GT, including premium paint ($550), stripes ($650), a single-wing rear spoiler ($750, Fastback only), Recaro leather seats ($3000, Fastback only), 19-inch 'Lustre Nickel' alloy wheels ($500), along with MagneRide adaptive dampers ($2750).

The updated Mustang Ecoboost is on sale now.
