Skoda has released a set of design sketches for its new Kodiaq GT, a coupe-styled version of its flagship SUV that will be exclusive to the Chinese market.

No firm launch date has been set yet, though we'd expect the Kodiaq GT to hit Chinese showrooms in the coming months – and we've seen near-production prototypes doing the rounds recently.

Compared to the standard Kodiaq, the GT gets a sloping roofline from the B-pillar, which extends into a fastback-style tailgate. 'Skoda' is also proudly displayed in chrome lettering across the back.

Inside, it looks like the coupe Kodiaq will get the same overall interior layout and design as the regular car, though with a more sporting focus.

Expect the seats and interior trims to echo those of the Sportline variants already offered on the standard Kodiaq. We'd also wager the Kodiaq GT will only offer five seats, not seven.

It's the first SUV coupe the Czech carmaker has ever offered, and it will be the company's fourth SUV model in China following the Kamiq, Karoq and Kodiaq. Once the Kodiaq GT launches, China will be the company's only market globally with four SUV models.

The Kodiaq GT also forms part of the company's Strategy 2025 plan, which revolves around an SUV offensive in markets like China, along with developments in electro-mobility and digitisation. China is also Skoda's largest market – every fourth vehicle the company produces is delivered there.

Skoda has committed more than €2 million ($3.25m) to be invested in the expansion of its SUV portfolio in China, along with the development of vehicles with alternative powertrain technologies.
