Around the Tracks: Tiny hatches and oil comparisons

Plus, female drivers react to the launch of the W Series.

When we're not creating it ourselves, the CarAdvice team spends a lot of time finding and consuming motoring content from all over the world.

Here's a handful of the articles, videos and social media posts that most caught our eye last week. Some of them are brand-new, others have been online for a while.

Enjoy them – just not too much, okay?

VW Up! GTI v Mazda 2 GT Sport v Suzuki Swift Sport – Matt Bird, Pistonheads

To read the internet, you'd think the VW Up GTI is just about the greatest hot hatch ever to grace mankind. It's small, cheap, accessible and cute, after all. And apparently channelling all that lovely Mk1 Golf GTI spirit - first tick on the bingo card - into a modern, fizzy, desirable pocket rocket package.

The Best Performing Oils 2018 – Supercheap Auto, YouTube

“We’re proud of the successes of our previous ‘Best Performing Oils’ campaigns, and we hope customers will find this year’s campaign as exciting as we do.”

Sure, this is an advertisement for Supercheap Auto, but it's a pretty damn cool one. Shot in New South Wales, the video features four Stadium Super Trucks, among other cars, and a 60-strong film crew.

Women in Racing Think a Women's Racing Series Misses the Point – Marshall Pruett, Road&Track

"Support without segregation." It’s the message being imparted by two of the more accomplished women in motorsports, following Wednesday’s announcement of an all-female ‘W Series’ set to launch Europe in 2019.

Segregation or opportunity? Female racing drivers react to W Series - Laurence Edmondson, ESPN

Pippa Mann, who has entered the Indy 500 seven times during her career, said the introduction of an all-women series would represent a step backwards for female drivers hoping to compete at the highest level.
