2020 Porsche 911 GT3 spied at the Nurburgring

Next-gen track weapon hits the Green Hell for performance testing.

The new '992' Porsche 911 GT3 has been spied at the Nurburgring this week, spotted with its production body for the first time.

Compared to less-extreme versions of the new-generation 911 we've seen recently, the GT3 prototype has a more aggressive body kit, with some bits still covered with black camouflage, along with that massive rear wing – the latter a pre-production component going by the rough look here.

There's also large centrally-mounted twin exhaust finishers on this car, compared to the wider-set units we've seen on non-GT3 versions of the next-gen sports car family.

We can also see how the new tail-light design will be incorporated with the GT3, where it sits underneath the wing and air outlet on the rump. It will be refined a a bit for the final production model, but blends well to our eyes.

There's been rumours the GT3 could finally be succumbing to the turbocharging revolution in the next generation, though photographers believe they heard the 4.0-litre flat six from the current model fitted to this vehicle. In saying that, it should get a power bump – a figure of 550hp (410kW) is being circulated, which would make the new GT3 more powerful than the current GT3 RS (383kW).

As for timing, it's expected the GT3 will be revealed after the core 911 range, possibly at next year's Frankfurt motor show in September 2019.
