New range-topping A-Class lobbing next month, priced around $2000 higher than the A200.
Mercedes-Benz has announced pricing and specs for the new A250 4Matic, set to arrive Down Under in November.
The range-topping A250 offers 165kW of power and 350Nm of torque, put to all four wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. It'll hit 100km/h in 6.2 seconds, while claimed combined fuel consumption is 6.6L/100km.
Up to 50 per cent of power can be shuffled to the rear wheels through an electro-mechanically controlled central clutch, but it's essentially a front-wheel drive car on a dry, straight road. Where base A-Class variants get a torsion-beam suspension down back, the range-topper has a four-link setup.
As with the A200, the A250 rides on 18-inch alloy wheels as standard, and includes a dual-screen MBUX infotainment system comprising two 10.25-inch displays. LED headlights with high-beam assist, keyless start, and wireless phone charging as standard.
On the safety front, you get nine airbags, autonomous emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, traffic sign recognition and a rear-view camera.
Pricing for the entry-level A180 will be announced before the end of 2018, but isn't available at the moment. Mercedes-Benz says the A250 4Matic is only available for a limited time in the guise described here – the range will be adjusted with the arrival of the A180 and AMG A35 next year, although what those adjustments will look like remains to be seen.
