BMW Australia has announced pricing and specs for the fourth-generation X5 SUV, which touches down locally in November.

The range will kick off with two variants: the xDrive 30d and xDrive M50d, priced from $112,900 and $149,900 before on-road costs respectively.

Power in the 30d comes from a 3.0-litre turbo-diesel engine making 195kW and 620Nm, good for a claimed 100km/h sprint time of 6.5 seconds. It's mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission, while all-wheel drive is standard.

Standard equipment includes keyless entry, a rear-view camera and 3D surround view, active cruise control with stop/go, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keeping assist, and highway steering assist.

Tech like Apple CarPlay and real-time traffic information is included, along with dual-zone climate control, a 10-speaker audio system, DAB+ digital radio, electric folding mirrors and auto-dimming interior mirrors are also included.

The car rides on 20-inch alloy wheels, and the off-road looking xLine body styling package comes at no extra cost. Those keen to actually go off-road (or to tackle tough polo carparks) there's now an xOffroad package available as well, with air suspension, additional underbody protection, an electrically-controlled rear differential lock and a unique switch to toggle different off-road drive modes.

The M Sport trim, which BMW says accounted for 80 per cent of sales on the last X5, will cost $4000 and brings bigger brakes, unique wheels, an adaptive suspension, a sportier bodykit and M-branded add-ons behind the wheel.

Two 19-inch alloy wheel choices, another 20-inch design and a cost-option 21-inch design are all available.

Jumping to the M50d swaps your 20-inch alloy wheels for 22-inch units, and adds high-end niceties like soft-close doors, four-zone climate control, a 'BMW Individual leather instrument panel', heated/cooled front cupholders, changeable lumbar seat support, heated front seats, a 16-speaker stereo, laser headlights, and an M Sport exterior package.

Power comes from a 3.0-litre quad-turbo inline-six diesel engine, pumping out 294kW and 760Nm for a claimed 5.2-second sprint to 100km/h.

Active anti-roll and rear-wheel steering are both standard too, in keeping with the M50d's sportier focus.

Regardless of trim, the BMW Live Cockpit Professional infotainment and driver display system will be included, combining two 12.3-inch screens to take on the Audi Virtual Cockpit and Mercedes MBUX setups. A head-up display, gesture control, sports seats and two rear-seat USB ports are all standard as well.

The new X5 will be in showrooms from November this year.
