2019 Skoda Rapid Spaceback teased

Vision RS-inspired hatchback scheduled for a full reveal before the year's end.

Skoda has released a shadowy teaser for a "future compact model", believed to be the next-generation Rapid Spaceback.

The picture shows the side profile of the upcoming hatchback, which is heavily influenced by the Vision RS concept that was shown at the Paris motor show this month.

While not officially confirmed as the all-new Rapid, the image is named "Spaceback_Teaser", and the extended glass tailgate on the Vision RS concept (below) is a design feature of the current Rapid Spaceback.

Skoda has confirmed the new model will be a five-door vehicle, and be underpinned by the Volkswagen Group's MQB A0 platform – which serves as the basis of compact models like the Seat Ibiza and Volkswagen Polo.

It's the first Skoda model line to utilise the compact vehicle platform, which the company claims to combine "compact exterior dimensions and generous interior space, along with the use of numerous innovative assistance systems".

Going by the last part of that statement, expect the new Rapid to get a comprehensive technology update to bring it line with the likes of the Polo, which offers high-end driver-assistance and infotainment features in the lower end of the new car market.

As for timing, the company says the "brand new" model will make its public debut "before the end of 2018".
