Nissan partners with JET Charge for Australian infrastructure

Nissan Australia will partner with JET Charge on electric vehicle charging stations at its dealers, and in the homes of owners.
When it touches down in mid-2019, the Leaf will be stocked by 89 dealerships. Each of those dealers will have a Jet Charge station, but the company will also be called upon to support owners in installing home fast charging.
"Nissan is supporting the Leaf buyers with the whole charging package, making sure dealerships and homes can be set up and ready," said Tim Washington, JET Charge founder and chief executive.
"From a technological and infrastructure perspective it's exciting, because working with Nissan allows us to showcase the future of mobility in Australia."
According to Washington, and research quoted by Nissan, there'll be a "significant rise in electric vehicle sales" in Australia over the next seven years.
"It will be gradual with a series of jumping points, but we are forecasting a significant increase in EV sales between now and 2025," he said, arguing you "can't underestimate just how important experience is in successfully selling an electric vehicle".
Announced at a large event in Sydney, the JET Charge news is part of Nissan Australia's plans to make one-third of its volume electrified by 2022. The push is part of Nissan's global M.O.V.E. to 2022 plan, centring on electrification and environmental change.
Along with the all-electric Leaf, the company has previously confirmed it'll bring e-Power hybrid vehicles to Australia, although it's yet to nail down what they'll be.
It also hasn't confirmed pricing for the Leaf, although we know it'll have Nissan's suite of semi-autonomous driver assists, along with niceties like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto when it arrives next year.
"This is part of our commitment to provide safe, smart and sustainable mobility to the people of Australia," Lester said of the EV rollout.
"We will also continue to work with federal and local government, and the private sector, to drive more electrification infrastructure in the community."
