Audi e-tron quattro won’t be stocked in US showrooms

Full-electric SUV to be made available on a build-to-order basis only

Audi America has announced its dealers won’t be stocking the e-tron quattro in showrooms, with the full-electric SUV only available on a build-to-order basis.

Audi claims the new retail model will ensure all dealerships will be able to sell the e-tron without needing to worry about being limited to a set allocation.

Customers keen to buy an e-tron will be able to place a deposit either at an Audi dealership or online.

Audi also confirmed that dealers will be able order e-trons for their inventory if they wish, ensuring that customers still have demonstrator models to view before they decide to purchase.

Scott Keogh, Audi of America president said, “I think it would be a beautiful world if you can go to a dealer — and we'd like to find that beautiful world — with zero floorplan [expense] and proper, full gross on the car."

Keogh also told Automotive News Audi’s large and well-established dealer network will give it a substantial advantage when competing with other EV manufactures.

"The same network that got us to double our sales, and got us to 200,000 units [annually], is going to be the same network that's going to lead this electric revolution for us, and that's a massive competitive advantage — an onboard and engaged network," he said.

Audi anticipate high demand for the e-tron quattro, with customer wait times expected to stretch for months, or even a year or more.

Pricing for the e-tron quattro will start at $75,795 USD (equiv. $104,298 AUD) for the Premium Plus base model and topping out at $87,695 USD ($120,673 AUD) for the First Edition.
