2017-18 Mercedes-Benz S-Class recalled

German limousine has lost its nuts, and could pose a fire hazard.

Mercedes-Benz Australia has issued a recall for 'certain' S-Class models built during 2017 and 2018 over concerns the busbars in the luggage area could pose a fire risk.

According to the German marque, a manufacturing fault may not have seen two nuts for the mounting busbars (an electrical component) in the 'prefuse box' located in the boot installed.

Several issues can arise if the condition occurs. The increased resistances between the busbars could present a fire hazard, while the interruption of electrical contact of the busbars "may lead to function failures" – including the running of the engine, belt functions and digital instrument cluster.

Mercedes-Benz says all of these scenarios can increase the risk of an accident and also the risk of injury.

There are 45 units affected by this notice – a VIN list is available here – which were sold from 1 November 2017 through 28 February 2018.

Owners are advised to contact their local dealer to arrange the inspection and repair of their S-Class, which will be carried out free of charge.
