Skoda Vision RS drivetrain detailed

180kW plug-in hybrid drivetrain housed under concept body

The plug-in hybrid drivetrain of the Skoda Vision RS concept has been detailed ahead of the car's in-the-flesh debut at the 2018 Paris motor show next week.

According to Autocar, the Vision RS is powered by a plug-in hybrid drivetrain generating a total of 180kW of power. Under the bonnet the concept features a turbocharged 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine with 110kW to its name.

Paired to the internal combustion engine is a 75kW electric motor and a 13kWh lithium-ion battery pack. Skoda claims the car can sprint from 0-100km/h in 7.1 seconds, and hit a top speed of 209km/h.

According to the company the car is capable, under the NEDC testing regime, of driving 70km solely on electric power. Overall fuel economy is claimed to be 1.4L/100km

In keeping with the concept’s green slant, the interior is said to feature recycled carbon-fibre and vegan-friendly materials. The cabin also contains illuminated crystal glass elements.

To go along with the latest details, Skoda has revealed another set of sketches detailing the concept's exterior.

Skoda says the Vision RS previews an “emotive new design language” for the brand. The design of the concept is widely expected to reappear on next-generation Rapid, which will adopt the Volkswagen Polo’s MQB-A0 platform.

Measuring 4356mm long, the Vision RS is around 50mm longer than today’s Rapid. The concept has a boot rated at 430 litres.
