2020 Honda Jazz spied

Next-generation hatch sticks to the formula it has used since 2001

The fourth-generation Honda Jazz has been spied for the first time while undergoing hot weather testing in southern Europe.

Covered from head to toe in camouflage wrap, it’s hard to make out too many of the new car’s styling details. There’s no disguising the new Jazz’s overall silhouette, though, which retains the mini-people-mover-meets-tall-hatch look of the first three generations.

In line with the company rediscovering its sporting mojo, the leading edge of the front doors' windows have been aggressively raked backwards.

For the first time, the Jazz will feature tail-lights which stretch into the tailgate. It will be interesting to see how Honda integrates its winged grille design into the new tall hatch.

It’s not known which powertrains will feature in the car, but thanks to Honda’s renewed enthusiasm for electrification, a hybrid is almost certain.

With the car’s tall body offering plenty of underfloor space for a large battery pack, an electric variant is also seems to be a wise bet. The company will soon launch an HR-V-based EV in China.

Given the car’s historical six- to seven-year model cycle, the new hatch could make its debut as late as 2020.
