The Volvo V60 Cross Country has been unveiled overnight, sticking to a formula that's worked well for Volvo since the 1997 V70 XC.
The Cross Country has 75mm more ground clearance than the regular V60 wagon. Other standard features include all-wheel drive, a special off-road driving mode, hill descent control, stability control, and corner traction control.
Grey plastic wheel arch protectors, side sills and bumper additions, as well as fewer chromed components, distinguish the Cross Country from its city-loving siblings.
Just two drivetrains will be available initially: the 140kW 2.0-litre D4 turbo-diesel, and 187kW 2.0-litre T5 turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine. Both come with all-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic transmission.
Volvo says mild hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions will be offered at a later stage, but hasn't detailed those options yet. We'd suggest the plug-in hybrid will be a variation of the T6 'twin-engine' setup offered on the regular V60 and S60 ranges, but the mild hybrid is harder to pin down.
Available features include an infotainment system with Android Auto/Apple CarPlay support, Volvo's City Safety system with autonomous emergency braking, and the Pilot Assist setup, which can help with steering, acceleration and braking on well-marked roads at speeds up to 130km/h.
