2019 DS 7 Crossback E-Tense 4×4 unveiled

All new DS models from now on will be available with an electrified drivetrain option

The DS 7 Crossback E-Tense 4x4 plug-in hybrid has been revealed and detailed overnight, serving as the first of many DS models born of an electrification push.

The luxury crossover features the same powertrain as the 3008 GT Hybrid4. Under the bonnet there's a 147kW 1.6-litre petrol engine paired with an 80kW electric motor built into the eight-speed automatic transmission, and another 80kW motor for the rear axle.

Altogether they produce 221kW of power and 450Nm of torque. With its 13.2kWh lithium-ion battery pack fully charged, the DS 7 Crossback E-Tense 4x4 has a WLTP pure-electric range of 50 kilometres.

Plugged into a standard wall socket, the DS 7 PHEV takes around eight hours for a full recharge, although this can be slashed to under two hours if you splash out for a 6.6kW/32A fast charging box.

The car has a claimed fuel consumption rating of 2.1L/100km. Top speed in electric-only mode is limited to 135km/h.

A number of driving modes (zero emissions, sport, hybrid and 4WD) are available. The driver can also set aside 10 or 20km of EV driving range for later use.

With the batteries fitted under the car's floor, DS claims the plug-in hybrid model has the same boot space as its internal-combustion siblings.

The DS 7 Crossback E-Tense 4x4 rides on 19-inch alloy wheels, and is available in a new colour, crystal grey.

Australia

If you like the look of the DS 7 Crossback, or any the new DS models, you're all out of luck.

"DS and its associated vehicles are currently not under consideration for Australia. Our focus for the immediate future is Peugeot and Citroen," a spokesperson from Peugeot Citroen Australia told CarAdvice recently.
