2019 BMW 3 Series teased

G20-generation mid-sizer is getting ready for launch. How do you feel about the new nose?

BMW has provided our clearest look yet at the next-generation (G20) 3 Series, ahead of a likely reveal at the Paris motor show in October.

Although a series of spy pictures, pre-production testing photos and renders have given us a pretty good sense for how the 3 Series will look, there's something to be said for seeing it officially... under a sheet... in the dark.

Gone are the angular 'halo' running lights, replaced by a twin L-shaped signature. The larger, conjoined kidney grille popping up across the BMW range also features – it's likely to be controversial, based on previous feedback.

The range will predominately comprise of four-cylinder engines. The 330i will be a four-pot, making around 190kW and 400Nm in partnership with an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission. A six-cylinder 340i will be offered, but it'll come after launch.

Under the skin, the car will ride on a version of the modular CLAR architecture already underpinning the 5- and 7 Series, with lightweight materials like aluminium and magnesium helping shed around 50kg from the previous model.

Inside, an up-to-date digital display and the latest BMW infotainment – dubbed OS7.0 – will feature, giving the mid-sized 3er the tech to fight Mercedes-Benz and Audi.

The 3 Series will likely debut at the Paris motor show, which kicks off on October 2. Stay tuned for all the latest.
