McLaren 600LT priced from $455,000

Supercar specialist reveals new details about the hottest Sports Series family member.

McLaren Automotive has launched its lightweight track-focussed 600LT into the Australian market, with a starting price of $455,000 plus on-road costs.

The McLaren 600LT, the first in the Sports Series range to wear the ‘LT’ badge, will hit our shores in late 2018, with a McLaren spokesperson confirming several Australian customers had already placed orders.

The 600LT is a lighter, more powerful version of the McLaren 570S, and is very much being marketed as a track day car that can also be driven on the road. But while it shares the same carbon MonoCell II chassis as the 570S, the 600LT tips the scales at a svelte 1274kg (dry weight), almost 100kg lighter than its tamer sibling.

A carbon-fibre diet – new front splitter, a completely redesigned rear diffuser, and sports seats lifted straight out of the McLaren P1 – only partially accounts for weight loss. Shaving 2mm off the thickness of the 600LT’s windows saves 2.1kg, while a shorter exhaust system (which now proudly exits out of the top of the 600LT’s rear – it’s spectacular in action, spitting fire in long plumes) provides a further 12.6kg weight saving.

The 600LT’s bespoke wheels and custom-made Pirelli Trofeo R rubber shaves another 17kg, while even the wiring loom has been redesigned, saving a further 2kg.

Power comes courtesy of retuned version of the 570S’s twin-turbo 3.8-litre V8 with outputs of 441kW and 620Nm. That’s an increase of 22kW and 20Nm over the 570S and when combined with the 600LT’s extreme diet, the 600LT can complete the 0-100km/h sprint in just 2.9 seconds, undercutting the 570S’s triple-figure dash of 3.2 seconds.

McLaren is keen to emphasise the exclusivity of its LT sub-brand and that’s why the 600LT will remain in production for exactly 12 months, with each car built-to-order.

Australian delivered cars are expected to arrive early in 2019. Meanwhile, stay tuned for Curt Dupriez’s in-depth review of the McLaren 600LT coming soon on CarAdvice.
