Audi e-tron quattro to kickstart 12-model electric onslaught

The e-tron quattro might be the first mass-produced electric vehicle from Audi, but it won't be alone in the line-up for long.

It'll be one of 12 all-electric cars to wear the four-ringed badge by 2025, across a broad spectrum of body styles and price points. They'll be underpinned by one of four new platforms, designed to support vehicles across the A, B, C and D segments.

Along with the e-tron, the brand's electric SUV portfolio will get a more coupe-styled e-tron Sportback in 2019. It'll have all-wheel drive, and the same 150kW fast charging system as its more practical cousin.

It's also likely to have similar power outputs, although we don't know what they'll be at the moment. Hold on tight, the e-tron quattro's full reveal is coming this afternoon at 2pm.

Along with the Sportback, the electric Audi range will gain a sports car... concept. The e-tron GT concept showcar will debut in Los Angeles this year, with a 'Premium Performance Electric' platform developed alongside Porsche.

On the plug-in hybrid side of things, the Audi range will expand over the coming years, with Peter Mertens, board member for technical development at Audi AG saying "in the future, virtually every market segment will include models powered by a combination of electric motors and a combustion engine, and that can be charged at an electric outlet".
