2019 BMW 8 Series convertible spied almost camouflage-free

New convertible features electric soft-top and familiar lines

The BMW 8 Series convertible has been spied ready for an on-stage debut in, it seems, the very near future.

There's only a little bit of camouflage on the top of the rear deck, around the rear wheel arches, and covering the vents on the front wings.

As is the norm for these things, BMW 8 Series convertible looks exactly like the coupe with accommodations made for its electric folding soft-top.

From these photos we can see the convertible features seating for four people, and a glass rear windscreen.

This prototype has the same bumpers and side skirts as the already-released BMW M850i xDrive coupe, so it's likely to feature that car's 390kW/750Nm 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8.

The closed-roof version of the M850i xDrive is capable of completing the 0-100km/h standard in 3.7 seconds, and we'd expect something very similar from the convertible.

With extra bracing required to keep the car structurally sound, the convertible should be heavier than the coupe, which will most likely be felt through slightly greater fuel consumption and altered handling feel.

Given how little effort BMW has gone to disguise this car, the odds are very short it will be unveiled at or just before the 2018 Paris motor show, which begins early next month.
