Nissan GT-R Nismo takes on Dodge Demon – video
Which lightning-quick performance weapon wins the day?
Traction or power? It's an age-old debate, but a side-by-side drag race with the Nissan GT-R Nismo and Dodge Demon has brought it back to life.
On paper, the drag-focused Dodge should have the Nissan absolutely licked. It makes a whopping 626kW of power and 1044Nm of torque, but the rear wheels are tasked with putting all of it to the road. Sure, a set of drag radial tyres are optional, but there's a real risk the 'most powerful V8 production car ever' will just torch its rear rubber off the line.
The GT-R concedes two cylinders and 185kW to the Demon, but combats with two extra driven wheels and a NASA-grade launch control system. It's lighter, too, which pays dividends in a straight line.
