Toyota Yaris GR Sport unveiled for Europe
It looks tougher, but there's no extra straight-line bite to back the bigger bark.
Toyota has revealed the Yaris GR Sport ahead of its official debut at the 2018 Paris Motor Show.
Inspired by the Yaris GRMN, the GR Sport keeps the standard European model’s hybrid powertrain, while adding several styling and suspension modifications.
The GR Sport will swap the GRMN’s three-door body style for a five-door design, and its six-speed manual for a CVT automatic.
Key changes include Sachs Performance shock absorbers, a solid anti-roll bar and an 11mm lower ride height, as well as the same Bridgestone Potenza RE50 tyres as the Yaris GRMN.
Toyota claim that these additions, along with a 18mm reduction in the wheel-to-wheelarch gap for sharper looks.
On the outside, the GR Sport adds 17-inch black alloy wheels, a black boot spoiler and additional black detailing.
Changes on the inside are limited to sports seats with white stitching and a smaller three-spoke steering wheel taken from the Toyota 86, along with GR logos in the instrument cluster.
The GR Sport will be powered by Toyota’s 1.5-litre hybrid powertrain, producing 74kW of power and returning 3.3L/100km on the UK combined cycle. The same drivetrain is available locally in the Prius C.
The GR Sport badge is Toyota’s take on Ford’s ST-Line, and Hyundai’s N Line, which features the same engines as regular models but with sportier styling additions.
