VinFast sedan and SUV revealed
Vietnamese automaker reveals cars which will go into production in 2019.
VinFast, which is aiming to build Vietnam's first indigenous car, has revealed a sedan and SUV, which will be given their in-the-flesh debuts at the 2018 Paris motor show in early October.
Both vehicles feature the marque's 'V' emblem high up on the grille, which is flanked by Opel-like spears that blend in with a thin strip of LED driving lights. The cars' main lighting units are hidden just above a set of faux air intakes.
Even though production versions of the sedan and SUV are scheduled to enter customers' driveways from September 2019, the company has yet to reveal details about their drivetrains.
The cars will be made at a new 335 hectare factory in northern Vietnam. VinFast, which is part of the VinGroup conglomerate, is reportedly spending US$1.5 billion ($2 billion) to get these two cars into production.
It will be interesting to see how VinFast's first models go given their premium positioning, and the country's status as a developing nation. The company does seem to have plans to introduce smaller and more affordable hatchback models.
Although these two cars were completed by Pininfarina, they are actually based on designs from rival design house ItalDesign.
The nascent automaker revealed 20 concept designs back in October 2017, and asked the Vietnamese public to choose their favourite, with the most popular sedan and crossover designs handed over to Pininfarina for development.
