Hyundai i30 facelift revealed for Europe
Updated hatchback and wagon get new face, Smartstream diesel engine, and new infotainment option.
Hyundai Europe has revealed its refreshed 2019 i30 range this week, complete with a new look and a cleaner diesel engine.
For the new model year, Hyundai's European division has given the i30 hatchback and wagon lines an updated bumper from the i30 Fastback, which incorporates a new LED daytime-running lights signature.
In addition to the minor design update, European i30 buyers can now choose from two new colours for the hatch and wagon – Stellar Blue and Olivine Grey.
Under the skin Hyundai has introduced the option of its new 1.6-litre Smartstream turbo-diesel engine in three different states of tune – 70kW, 85kW and 100kW.
The low-output version is only available with a six-speed manual transmission, while the mid- and high-output tunes offer both a six-speed manual or seven-speed dual-clutch automatic.
Additionally, all diesel i30 variants are now equipped with exhaust fluid after-treatment systems (urea/water mix), while all petrol variants have been equipped with a gasoline particulate filter. The changes make all i30 variants, including the N hot hatch, compliant with Euro 6d Temp regulations.
Rounding out the changes is the introduction is a new infotainment option for European customers, in the form of the company's 8.0-inch Display Audio system featuring Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. It's essentially the unit offered locally in the entry-level i30 Go, which doesn't have in-built satellite navigation.
Australia
We've contacted Hyundai's local division to see if the changes in Europe will be carried over to Australian models, and are awaiting a response.
It's unclear whether these changes are specific to European models, which are built at the company's Czech manufacturing plant. Other than the i30 N, the Australian-market i30 range is sourced from Korea, hence why we don't get the Fastback or wagon variants.
