While this will be Glenney’s first time in the RX-7, the talented driver is no stranger to a rotary, having contest twice in the Targa Tasmania in a Mazda Motorsport RX-8 SP.
“My time in the RX-8 SP has been great preparation for driving the RX-7. It has a very similar chassis and handling. Although under these time attack rules, the RX-7 will have a lot more horsepower,” says Glenney.
Underpinning the highly modified 13B Bridgeport turbo rotary is an Ohlins suspension package, AP race brakes, an 18-inch Yokohama Advan tyre package and HKS T04Z turbocharger.
The World Time Attack Challenge is all about the need for speed where whoever clocks the fastest lap time around the challenging 3.9km Eastern Creek circuit, wins.
Glenney is enthusiastic about clocking some fast times in the RX-7 at this weekends World Time Attack Challenge.
“Time attack is not dissimilar to tarmac rally, it’s just you and the car on the track against the clock, and better yet there’s no one to crash into. The rules allow a lot of freedom so there’s big horsepower, lots of carbon fibre and big aero kits, which makes for very exciting racing,” says Glenney.
Glenney and co-driver Bernie Webb were running second outright at last month’s Targa Tasmania rally when they collided with another competitor who unexpectedly stopped on the road.
The World Time Attack Challenge is on Friday 21st and Saturday 22nd May 2010 at Eastern Creek International Raceway, Sydney, Australia.
