2019 Subaru Forester pricing and specs

All-new SUV touches down in Australia priced from $33,490.

Subaru Australia has announced pricing and specifications for the all-new 2019 Forester line-up, which kicks off from $33,490 before on-road costs.

The fifth-generation Forester is headlined by a heavily-revised engine and transmission, enhanced driver assistance technologies, new infotainment systems, more interior space, and – of course – a new look inside and out.

Standard equipment in the entry-level 2.5i includes 17-inch alloy wheels with a full-size spare, electric folding and heated door mirrors, keyless entry with push-button start, adaptive LED headlights with LED daytime-running lights, LED tail-lights, automatic wipers, a 6.5-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, DAB+ digital radio, dual-zone climate control, rear air vents, and a six-speaker Harman Kardon sound system.

In terms of safety, the base grade gets Subaru's EyeSight active safety suite, incorporating features like autonomous emergency braking, lane-change assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and adaptive cruise control.

Moving up to the 2.5i-L (from $35,490) adds several other safety features, including driver condition monitoring, reverse AEB, adaptive high-beam, along with front and side cameras as part of the Vision Assist package.

The 2.5i Premium bumps the asking price to $38,490 plus on-roads and brings alloy pedals, an auto-dipping passenger-side mirror, auto-folding mirrors, upgraded cloth seat trim, upgraded dash panel trim, one-touch folding rear seats, a larger 8.0-inch infotainment system with inbuilt navigation, front fog-lights, power tailgate, 18-inch alloys with full-size spare, along with eight-way power-adjustable front seats with memory function.

Finally, the range-topping 2.5i-S is priced from $41,490 before ORCs, and adds things like more premium dashboard and door trims, LED fog-lights, an electric sunroof, an eight-speaker Harman Kardon audio system with sub woofer, leather trim, a piano black front grille with chrome surround, silver side mirrors, along with lashings of chrome and silver inside and out.

All versions of the new Forester are powered by a "90 per cent new" 2.5-litre horizontally-opposed 'Boxer' four-cylinder petrol engine with direct injection. Outputs are rated at 136kW of power and 239Nm of torque, up 10kW and 4Nm over the outgoing model's powertrain.

Drive is sent to Subaru's symmetrical all-wheel drive system via a continuously-variable transmission (CVT) as standard, which has undergone "multiple refinements" for better response, along with reduced noise and vibration. The CVT also features a seven-speed manual mode.

The 0-100 sprint is dispatched with in 9.5 seconds (claimed), while fuel consumption is rated at 7.4L/100km on the combined cycle, aided by idle stop/start technology. The fuel tank capacity is 63L, and you'll only need to stump for 91RON unleaded.

With the rear seats in place, Subaru claims the Forester offers 498L of luggage capacity, expanding to 1060L with the second row folded.

As for ownership, the Forester range is covered by a three year, unlimited kilometre warranty, with scheduled maintenance required every 12 months or 12,500km, whichever comes first.
