2018 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross ES arrives from $29,990

Mitsubishi’s promised entry-level Eclipse Cross arrives to bolster value for the brand’s newest model.

Following its introduction earlier this year, Mitsubishi has expanded the Eclipse Cross family with a new price-leading variant to give the range a more enticing entry point.

Priced from $29,990 plus on road costs, the Eclipse Cross ES looks little different from higher specced LS and Exceed versions, but packs in a few key equipment changes.

To bring the price down the base model Eclipse Cross does without luxuries like proximity key entry and start, power folding exterior mirrors, electric park brake, park sensors, and lane departure warning.

It’s not entirely bare though, with 18-inch alloy wheels, LED running lights, cruise control, auto lights and wipers, front fog lights, and a 7.0-inch touchscreen for access to DAB+ radio, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and Bluetooth via a six-speaker sound system.

The Eclipse Cross ES also puts forth a strong safety list including seven airbags, reverse camera, and Mitsubishi’s Forward Collision Mitigation system which combines forward collision warning and autonomous emergency braking.

Under the bonnet is the same 1.5-litre direct injected turbocharged engine with 110kW and 250Nm, linked to a CVT automatic with paddle shifters, driving the front wheels.

Alongside the ES other models in the range hold their current price points and won’t receive any equipment changes meaning the $31,990 (plus on road costs) LS retains all the goodies detailed above that are missing from the ES.

The Exceed from $36,000 in 2WD form or $38,500 with all-wheel drive adds adaptive cruise control, LED headlights, leather seats with front seat heating, head up display, dual-zone climate control, dual pane sunroof, around-view camera, blind spot warning and rear cross traffic alert.

Pricing

  • Eclipse Cross ES 2WD - $29,990
  • Eclipse Cross LS 2WD - $31,990
  • Eclipse Cross Exceed 2WD - $36,000
  • Eclipse Cross Exceed AWD - $38,500
