Load-carrying variant of 12th generation range revealed with a longer wheelbase
The next-generation Toyota Corolla wagon has been revealed ahead of an in-the-flesh debut at the Paris motor show in early October.
To be known in Europe as the Corolla Touring Sports, the new wagon variant utilises the same TNGA GA-C platform as the hatch, which is already on sale in Australia.
The new wagon rides on a 2700mm wheelbase, up 60mm from the hatch. Toyota says this increase gives the Corolla wagon "best-in-class" rear seat legroom. The company claims the wagon's boot has a VDA load space rating of 598 litres, presumably with the rear seats up.
Although the new Corolla wagon seems to be the same from the B-pillar forward, it features lengthened and restyled rear doors, and a new rear section with full-LED tail-light clusters and a catamaran-inspired rear bumper.
In Europe the new Corolla wagon will be offered with three drivetrains: a 85kW 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol, 89kW 1.8-litre hybrid, and 133kW 2.0-litre hybrid.
Available features include a head-up display, the Toyota Touch infotainment system, wireless smartphone charging, and the JBL GreenEdge Premium audio system.
The wagon will also be available with a black out treatment for the roof, pillars, and lower grille. A multi-link rear-end suspension setup is standard, while an adaptive variable suspension system is optional.
Australia
The wagon seems to be an unlikely addition to the company's local range, with Orlando Rodriguez, Toyota Australia's product public relations manager, having already told CarAdvice there are "no plans" to introduce the model Down Under.
