2019 Fiat 124 Spider revealed
But the changes are minor, especially compared to the Mazda MX-5 updates.
Fiat has taken the wraps off its updated 124 Spider, with new styling options and an updated technology suite for the Mazda MX-5 twin.
The (mildly) refreshed roadster will be offered in three trim levels overseas: Classica, Lusso and Abarth. The entry-level model gets a twin exhaust, black roll bars and 16-inch alloy wheels, along with halogen headlights. The interior is trimmed in cloth.
Moving up to the Lusso brings silver highlights in place of the black from the base car's exterior, and adds the choice of leather seats in brown or black. The car's 7.0-inch infotainment system now offers Sirius XM satellite radio in North America, and the optional technology package brings keyless entry.
Finally, the range-topping Abarth 124 – the only model we get in Australia – gets a sports suspension setup, a mechanical limited-slip differential, additional bracing and a sportier exhaust system, now in the form of a throaty Record Monza setup. Recaro seats and Brembo brakes are also standard, in keeping with the car's racier focus.
The top-spec car has gained a red front spoiler lip, mirror caps and a red tow hook, along with Abarth floor mats for 2019, but that's about the extent of the changes. The wider range is being offered in a new shade of Ceramic Grey, and there are new central stripe options on the Classica. Given that model isn't offered in Australia, we'd be surprised to see the option locally.
Power in the range-topper comes from a 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol making 125kW of power and 250Nm of torque, as before. Fiat says improvements have been made in noise, vibration and harshness suppression, thanks to in part to an acoustic front windshield and extra sound insulation.
