2010 Skoda Superb Wagon launched in Australia

Following its debut at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show in September, the Czech-made Skoda Superb Wagon has joined the Australian line-up with an emphasis on practically, user-friendliness and exclusivity.

The new Superb wagon shares its dimensions exactly with the sedan (4838mm long, 1817mm wide, 1462mm high) although the standard roof rails increase the height to 1510mm.

Skoda claims the wagon’s loading capacity makes it a segment leader, with the luggage compartment holding 633 litres and expanding to 1865 litres with the rear seats folded down (the sedan manages 565/1670 litres).

And it’s in the back where Skoda has really gone to work on the wagon with a number of convenient features. A $790 option is the electrically operated tailgate with automatic retractable luggage compartment cover that rolls back to the middle position upon opening for easy access.

The luggage compartment also features an extendable boot floor which reaches out over the rear bumper with the tailgate open to make moving large items easier.

Lighting integrated into the tailgate is designed to illuminate both the boot and the whole area around the rear of the car, while a removable, rechargeable LED flashlight is located in the luggage compartment. Skoda has equipped it with a built-in magnet so it can be placed on the wagon’s body – especially useful in the event of a puncture.

The entire wagon range comes standard with Park Assist parallel parking system and front parking sensors, hill control and the same choice of direct-injection petrol and diesel drivetrains.

The 125TDI diesel generates 350Nm and comes with a six-speed DSG transmission, while the 118TSI cranks out 250Nm mated to the seven-speed DSG.

The top of the range 191FSI produces maximum torque of 350Nm and is matched to the six-speed DSG and all-wheel drive.

Other options include the all-new KESSY keyless locking, entry and start system which unlocks the doors when the handles are touched; fully electric two-piece panoramic sunroof which blocks out 90 percent of the heat from the sun; and technology packages that include touch screen and voice-controlled satellite navigation, 30GB hard disk for audio and navigation, six-disc CD/MP3 changer and armrest-mounted Media Device Interface.
