Skoda Vision RS concept teased

Hatch-backed show car will launch at the Paris motor show in October, previewing a new compact model.

Skoda has revealed the first sketches of its Vision RS concept, ahead of a full reveal at the Paris motor show in October.

Measuring 4356mm long, 1810mm wide and 1431mm tall, sitting on a 2650mm wheelbase, the Vision RS is designed to preview a "future compact car, while ringing in the next design phase for its sporting RS model range".

To us, that suggests the concept will preview the next-generation Fabia or Rapid hatchback. The Rapid shares its elongated glass tailgate with the concept, and is similar in size.

Meanwhile, the current Fabia was given a significant facelift earlier this year, but is built around an amalgamation of the PQ25 platform from older Volkswagen products and MQB, rather than the more modern underpinnings of the current-generation Volkswagen Polo and Seat Ibiza.

Up front, it has an ankle-breaking splitter and aggressive, pinched headlights and a strong bonnet line, while the side profile has a similar cutline to the Kodiaq and Karoq. The car rides on onion-dicer alloy wheels with links to those fitted to Sportline models, while the rear end is home to a wide, diffuser-style rear bumper complete with central-mounted exhaust.

The tail-lights are very similar to those of the Vision E concept from the 2017 Frankfurt motor show, albeit without the flame-inspired detailing. With an extended glass panel on the rear window and an aggressive-looking spoiler, the Fabia could do worse than mimicking the show car – or at least, the sketch previewing the show car.

The Vision RS will be unveiled at full during the Paris motor show, which kicks off in October. Stay tuned for more in the lead up to launch.
