2019 Mercedes-Benz EQC interior previewed

And it looks like a GLC and an A-Class combined...

Mercedes-Benz is getting close to revealing its EQC but, at this rate, there's going to be no surprises left when the sheet is whipped off in Sweden. After showing the world its headlight design and 'mystic rear' (stop chuckling) earlier this week, the company has given us a look behind the wheel of its first mass-produced electric vehicle.

The cabin appears to combine elements of the GLC, with an upswept centre console and a wide row of toggle switches below the air vents, and a raft of new EQ cues. That means you get a pair of rectangular air vents in place of the three circular units of the internal-combustion car, and the latest MBUX infotainment system with dual widescreens.

Speaking of MBUX, the rotary controller from the GLC has been replaced with the touch-based controller from the A-Class, confirming the tech-leader for the Mercedes-Benz electric push with get the brand's newest in-car technology. Makes sense.

Blue lighting has been used ad nauseam, in keeping with blue-lit exterior of the EQC concept car, although there are orange highlights scattered around the cabin as well – we reckon you'll be able to change the colours if blue ain't your thang.

When it launches, the EQC will go head-to-head with the Audi e-tron and BMW iX3. It's expected to have around 300kW of power and 700Nm of torque, with a battery pack somewhere in the vicinity of 70kWh. Those specs have been taken from the concept preceding it, so there's still room for change, of course.

When it launches, the EQC will be the first mass production vehicle to be part of Daimler's attack on the burgeoning electric vehicle market, and as such launches the EQ brand. With that in mind, it's kind of a big deal for Mercedes-Benz.

Stay tuned for more on the EQC when it launches in Sweden on September 4.
