2019 Renault Arkana revealed in Moscow

Coupe-crossover to land in Russia next year, with other global markets to follow.

Renault has completed the reveal of its coupe-crossover Arkana, built in Moscow for the Russian market.

When we say it's designed for the Russian market, we really mean it. Renault says there are no plans to offer the Moscow-built car in Europe, despite the obvious demand for style-driven compact crossovers. It will be offered in 'other markets' to Russia, though... Maybe it'll head to China?

With a high waistline and sloping tailgate, the car appears to be chasing a similar aesthetic to the BMW X4/X6, while its raised ride height and pseudo off-road toughness will likely appeal to buyers familiar with Russia's poorly-maintained roads.

It certainly has some presence about it, with flared wheel arches and 19-inch alloy wheels. As for what they do to the ride quality? That remains to be seen.

Up front, there's a new interpretation of the brand's c-shaped LED lighting signature, along with a tough take on the Renault corporate face. Expect to see a similar front end on the new Clio, slated for reveal at next month's Paris motor show. Down back, there's a smoothed-out version of the full-width lights from the Megane.

“The Arkana show car is a distinctive coupé-crossover, striking balance between the elegance of a saloon and the powerful stance of an SUV. We have dialled in specific Renault cues, with a strong design, strength and sensuality with a French touch,” said Laurens Van den Acker, senior vice-president, Renault design.

Details about what will power the car haven't been revealed, as this is just the 'show car' reveal of the Arkana. The production car will land in Russian showrooms in 2019, so we'd suggest details about powertrain will lob later this year.

With that said, we'd be surprised if a variation of the 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol or 1.6-litre turbo-diesel engines offered in the Kadjar don't feature. All-wheel drive is available on top-spec diesel cars abroad, making it likely for the Arkana as well.

The 'show car' Arkana will be revealed at the Moscow motor show, with more details likely to follow later this year.
