2019 Jeep Cherokee pricing and specs

New look for Jeep's mid-sized SUV, with pricing to start at $35,950

Jeep has revealed pricing and specifications for the facelifted 2019 Cherokee, which has touched down from $35,950 before on-road costs.

The range kicks off with the Sport, powered by a 2.4-litre four-cylinder petrol with 130kW and 229Nm, put to the front wheels through a nine-speed automatic transmission. It'll tow 1500kg with a braked trailer, and claims 8.5L/100km on the combined cycle.

Standard equipment includes a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a rear-view camera, forward collision warning, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, LED head- and tail-lights, along with 17-inch alloy wheels – autonomous emergency braking is standard across the range.

Keyless entry is included, while the driver and passenger sit in manually-adjusted seats trimmed in cloth. You miss out on niceties like dual-zone climate control, chrome roof rails, and illuminated vanity mirrors in the cheapest Jeep Cherokee, too.

Jumping to the Longitude boosts the price to $41,950 before on-roads, and swaps the four-cylinder engine for a 3.2-litre V6 making 200kW and 315Nm. Once again, a nine-speed automatic is standard.

Atop the base spec, you get an 'Active Drive' switchable all-wheel drive system, rear parking sensors, electrically adjustable front seats, push-button start, paddle shifters, a power tailgate, auto windscreen wipers and headlamps and dual-zone climate control.

The optional ($1650) Longitude Technology Group adds adaptive cruise control, side distance warning and hands-free park assist to the spec sheet.

Moving up to the Limited (pictured in red) jacks the price to $46,950 before on-road costs. It gets the same powertrain as the Longitude – and indeed the Trailhawk sitting above it – but adds niceties like 18-inch alloy wheels, a larger 8.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system with navigation, a 7.0-inch digital driver display and a nine-speaker audio system.

The semi-autonomous niceties from the Longitude Technology Group are standard here, along with heated/cooled leather buckets up front, automatic high-beam, an alarm and a sliding rear bench. As you may have gathered, Jeep is pitching the Limited as its luxury offering.

With that in mind, a dual-pane sunroof ($2200) is available as an option, along with two-tone polished/painted alloy wheels ($950).

Finally, the range is topped by the Cherokee Trailhawk, priced from $48,450 before ORCs. Although it has the same engine as the Limited and Longitude, their regular all-wheel drive systems have been turfed in place of a more specialised four-wheel drive system, complete with a two-speed transfer case and a locking rear differential.

The car rides on a proper off-road suspension with a taller ride height, and has unique fascias at both ends to offer better approach/departure angles off road. You also get easily-accessible off-road recovery points, lest your ambition outweigh your talent.

There are four skid plates under the body to protect the vitals over rocks, and a matte black decal on the bonnet to protect your vital senses (fine, your eyes) from glare. It's the little things, right? A set of off-road friendly 17-inch wheels are standard in place of the 18s from the Limited, too.

Although it's the most expensive car in the range, you'll pay more to have your Trailhawk outfitted like a Limited inside. The $2950 Trailhawk Premium Package adds heated/ventilated leather front seats, adaptive cruise control, a sliding rear bench, an alarm and auto high beam to the mix.

As with the Limited, a sunroof is a $2200 option on the Trailhawk.

The new Cherokee will be arriving in showrooms from October 1.
