Take a trip through the CarAdvice archives...

People often say “don’t forget where you came from”. Although we’re focused on every new car, every last detail here at CarAdvice, we have an extensive back-catalogue of news stories, lifestyle yarns and reviews.

Here’s a look at what happened on the week of August 28 in years past.

27 August 2017: Porsche Cayenne leaked

The new-generation 2018 Porsche Cayenne has surfaced online, thanks to a British publication letting its story and images loose onto the interwebs a few days early.

A year on since the new-generation Cayenne leaked online, we've seen the range bolstered by a plug-in hybrid variant and a flagship twin-turbo V8-powered performance hero capable of over 280km/h.

28 August 2016: Lotus Elise 250 Special Edition revealed

Another day, another limited-edition Lotus. This one's a little extra special, though: just 50 Lotus Elise 250 Special Edition convertibles will be built to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the company's factory in Hethel, UK.

Based on the Elise Cup 250 specification, the Special Edition was powered by a 1.8-litre supercharged petrol engine making 181kW of power and 250Nm of torque, good for a 0-100 time of 4.3 seconds.

27 August 2015: Kia Sportage revealed

As expected, Kia’s new mid-sized SUV has brought a more dynamic design to the party, moving the Sportage’s styling more in-line with the big new Sorento and Carnival models.

Like its predecessor, the then new Kia Sportage was a bold styling statement for the Korean brand, launching in Australia early in 2016.

The range has since undergone its mid-life facelift, bringing the standard inclusion of active safety kit like autonomous emergency braking and lane-keep assist, along with minor styling revisions to make it slightly less polarising.

28 August 2014: Suzuki Vitara revealed

Design-wise the Vitara owes a lot to last year's Suzuki iV-4 concept car. This means that the next-gen Vitara features smoother body surfacing, especially around the edges and for the wheel arch flares. A clamshell bonnet with a fake air vent between it and the A-pillar helps to make a link to the nameplate's past.

It's a bit of an SUV-fest this week, but the current-generation Vitara quickly became Suzuki's top-seller in Australia when it launched in local showrooms in 2015, and will get its mid-life facelift Down Under early in 2019.

28 August 2013: Volkswagen e-Golf revealed

Powered by an 85kW/270Nm electric motor teamed with a 24.2kWh lithium-ion battery, the front-wheel-drive Volkswagen e-Golf claims 0-100km/h in 10.4 seconds and a top speed electronically limited to 140km/h.

The Golf EV’s range of 190km is nine kilometres short of the best figures claimed for the newly updated Nissan Leaf.

Before EVs were all the craze, Volkswagen hadn't revealed any of the upcoming I.D. family and offered one of the few normal-looking electric cars on sale, based on the seventh-generation Golf hatchback.

It's a shame we never got it here, though its relatively short range probably would have made it a very slow seller locally anyway.

29 August 2012: Mazda 6 revealed

The 2013 Mazda6 has been revealed in its entire, striking sedan form at the 2012 Moscow motor show.

Mazda’s new range of pictures, which follow previous teaser shots, show the Japanese car maker will have a dynamic-looking vehicle to take on medium-car rivals such as the Toyota Camry, Honda Accord Euro and Ford Mondeo from early 2013.

First revealed six years ago, the current-generation Mazda 6 was the third iteration of the nameplate since it replaced the 626 in 2002, and the second model in the company's line-up to be built from the ground up using its fuel-saving SkyActiv technologies.

29 August 2011: Infiniti FX50 Sebastian Vettel Edition concept revealed

The Infiniti FX50 Vettel concept showcases a sporty exterior with a fresh front apron and new grille design. The special concept also features a distinct black and Moonlight White Pearl colour scheme, with new charcoal alloy wheels, black carbon fibre side mirrors and rear tailgate spoiler.

Other exterior highlights include a carbon fibre front wing, which is said to be modelled on the Red Bull Racing F1 car's front wing, a set of LEDs embedded into the lower front bumper bar, and removed roof rails from the standard FX50 to provide a sleeker look.

If there was one luxury SUV that was going to get the kids to school fast, it was the Infiniti FX50. A year after the concept was first revealed, Infiniti made a limited run of 50 Sebastian Vettel Editions with a 300kW 5.0-litre V8, capable of hitting an eye-watering 300km/h.

Pricing was said to be in the vicinity of £100,000 in the UK, which converted to approximately $154,000 at the time – eesh.
