2019 Ford GT Heritage Edition revealed

Latest special edition supercar celebrates 50th anniversary of Gulf GT40 Le Mans win.

Ford has revealed the 2019 GT Heritage Edition, which commemorates half a century since the 1968 and 1969 Le Mans victories by the Ford GT40 wearing the iconic Gulf Oil livery.

Confirming the rumours from a month ago – which suggested the GT would be offered for the 2019 model year in the Gulf livery – the 2019 Ford GT Heritage Edition offers the unique exterior finish along with special interior finishes to match the eye-catching colour scheme.

The 2019 model also debuts exposed carbon-fibre accents for both the interior and exterior of a Heritage Edition, along with available No.9 graphics that pays tribute to the 1968 race car, while 2020 versions will wear the No.6 sticker.

Other headlining features include exposed carbon-fibre A-pillars, unique 20-inch forged alloy wheels in "high-gloss dark stainless" with black lug nuts, orange brake calipers and silver rear-view mirrors.

Inside, there's Ebony black Alcantara trim for the seats, instrument panel, pillars, headliner and steering wheel, blue and orange contrast stitching, a new seat embossment inspired by the 1968 race car, along with polished anodised paddle shifters.

Rounding out the spec sheet are high-gloss appliques in the instrument panel, door bezels and X-brace.

"We are delighted to partner with Ford to help the Gulf-themed Heritage Edition Ford GT become reality. The Ford Marque has played a major role in creating Gulf’s place in motoring and motorsporting legend and the same is true in reverse," said Ravi Chawla, managing director for Gulf Oil Lubricants.

"Every Gulf outright victory at Le Mans has been Ford-powered and of course Gulf Ford GT40s took the latter two wins of Ford’s four consecutive victories at Le Mans from 1966-1969."

"What could be more fitting than both brands coming together to produce this fantastic motor car – the modern spiritual successor to the amazing Gulf-Ford GT40s that took Le Mans and World Championship honours," he added.

The 2019 GT Heritage Edition follows the 2017 '66 and 2018 '67 Heritage Editions, which featured exterior colour schemes inspired by the Le Mans-winning 1966 and 1967 GT40 race cars.

Powered by a twin-turbocharged 3.5-litre EcoBoost V6 engine, the carbon-fibre-bodied Ford GT was first revealed back in January 2015. And, despite Ford still failing to officially reveal power or torque figures, according to ‘other sources’ (read: Forza Motorsport 6), outputs are believed to be in the realm of around 470kW and 731Nm.
