2019 Kia Soul Electric spied

Third-generation model could shares its electric drivetrain with the Hyundai Kona

The Kia Soul EV has been spied doing development laps around the Nurburgring Nordschleife.

Although this latest prototype is wearing the same level of disguise as the model spotted back in February, this vehicle is fitted with all the trim pieces it will use once in production.

Despite the car bra, we can see the new Soul will retain the same overall shape and design theme as the first two generations. Notable changes include slimmer headlight units, and a hockey stick-style tail-light design stretching well into the tailgate.

Although the car is comprehensively camouflaged from head to toe, we know it's sporting an electric drivetrain thanks to the yellow sticker on one of its side windows, and the E suffix on its German licence plate.

It's very possible the Kia Soul EV will share its powertrains with with the Hyundai Kona EV.

The base Kona EV is available with a 99kW/395Nm electric motor, and a 39.2kWh lithium polymer battery good for around 300km of driving. The long-range version comes with a 150kW/395Nm motor, and a larger 64kWh battery pack estimated to give 470km between charges.
