Take a trip through the CarAdvice archives...

People often say “don’t forget where you came from”. Although we’re focused on every new car, every last detail here at CarAdvice, we have an extensive back-catalogue of news stories, lifestyle yarns and reviews.

Here’s a look at what happened on the week of August 21 in years past.

21 August 2017: BMW M5 leaked

It was on this day 12 months ago that the new-generation BMW M5 leaked on a Chinese website, just days before the models's official reveal.

At the time we already knew the M5's 4.4-litre bi-turbo V8 packed a hefty 445kW of power and the added traction of all-wheel drive, good for a 0-60mph (0-97km/h) time of just 3.2 seconds – insanely quick for a four-door luxury sedan.

21 August 2016: Aston Martin Vanquish Zagato Volante revealed

August is a popular time to reveal performance cars, it seems. Two years ago today Aston Martin and Zagato revealed the Vanquish Zagato Volante, a limited-run convertible with a bespoke design to match the Vanquish Zagato coupe.

Just 99 examples were built, powered by an uprated version of Aston Martin's 6.0-litre V12 tuned to make 441kW of power, good for a 0-60mph (0-97km/h) run of 3.7 seconds.

20 August 2015: Mercedes-AMG C63 Coupe revealed

Yet another performance car to be revealed at this time of the year, the Mercedes-AMG C63 Coupe was revealed on this week three years ago, in both 'standard' and 'S' versions.

Following the related C63 sedan and Estate wagon, the C63 Coupe features the same 4.0-litre bi-turbo V8 as various models in the Mercedes-AMG family – including the AMG GT supercar.

In its most potent form, the C63 S Coupe develops 375kW of power and 700Nm of torque, with a claimed 3.9-second run from 0-100.

The C63 Coupe would arrive in Australia the following year, and an updated model is scheduled to hit our shores in December 2018.

21 August 2013: Volkswagen Golf R revealed

The all-new Mark VII Volkswagen Golf R promises 0-100km/h in 4.9 seconds from its new 221kW/380Nm turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, when teamed with the optional six-speed dual-clutch transmission. That's 0.6 seconds quicker than the current 188kW/330Nm model when matched to the same gearbox.

Can you believe the seventh-generation Golf R is already four years old? Neither can we.

18 August 2008: Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport revealed

Bugatti has unveiled the all new Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport with a unique removable roof. The company says the decision to make a convertible was in response to customer demand.

Little has changed in terms of performance, close the roof and the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport can still reach the magical 407 km/h. But if you feel like some topless hyperspeed driving, you can still hit a staggering 360 km/h with roof off.

Even 10 years later, any version of the Bugatti Veyron is bloody quick and an engineering masterpiece.
