Around the Tracks: Dodge Vipers and Elon Musk

Plus, a curious combination of British cars goes head-to-head

When we’re not creating it ourselves, the CarAdvice team spends a lot of time finding and consuming motoring content from all over the world.

Here’s a handful of the articles, videos and social media posts that most caught our eye last week. Some of them are brand-new, others have been online for a while.

Enjoy them – just not too much, okay?

Learning to Drive Stick-Shift on a Dodge Viper – Jonathan Harper, Road & Track

Shaun Westbrook is like many of us. He grew up with car posters adorning his bedroom walls. Most car enthusiasts, without a second of hesitation, can tell you about the one car they pined for in their early years. A few of us have even been lucky enough to grow up and purchase that bedroom poster car...

I almost didn’t believe him when he told me the story—who buys a car like this without knowing how to drive a stick shift? But the story is true, and gets even more cringe-worthy from the moment Westbrook first tried to drive away in his newly-purchased pride and joy.

Talking Tech With Elon Musk! – Marques Brownlee, YouTube

Elon Musk can be a hard man to pin down. He also doesn't love the media, so in-depth interviews can be hard to come by. Here, tech YouTube creator Marques Brownlee talks about Tesla with Musk. It's not a proper grilling, but it's interesting nonetheless.

China's NIO files for IPO in the US in push to compete with Tesla – Sean O'Kane, The Verge

China’s NIO is arguably the furthest along of all the flashy electric car startups that have formed over the last few years. Now it wants to go public in the United States on the New York Stock Exchange, according to a filing with the SEC this past week.

Bentley GT vs Ariel Nomad vs McLaren 570S – Nic Cackett, PistonHeads

Take the use of 'versus' with a pinch of salt here; this is not a triple test. Not in the conventional sense, at any rate. Better you think of it as a barometer of sorts. If such a thing could indeed be waggled at the output of the Great British sports car industry, and a reading of its health delivered.
