1963 Ferrari 250 GTO sells for record $20 million

A 1963 Ferrari 250 GTO has sold for a record US $18 million ($20.1 million) to British radio personality Chris Evans.

Described as the most sought-after Ferrari in the world, the 250 GTO was sold through a private treaty sale by RM Auctions.

The 1963 Ferrari 250 GTO (chassis no. 4675 GT) is one of only 36 originally produced and this particular car was raced by numerous famous drivers such as Guido Fossati, Jean Guichet, Oddone Sigala, Vincenzo Nember and Luigi Taramazzo.

The Red Ferrari is powered by a 3.0-litre V12 engine that puts out 302 bhp @ 7500rpm.

Since its birth in 1963, this Ferrari 250 GTO has proven to be a podium finishing racing winner, including three wins at Le Mans.

The exclusivity of Ferrari’s 250 GTO cannot be understated. We are pleased to have been able to unite this exceptional car with a new and immensely enthusiastic owner. It’s fantastic that this car will now be used in earnest on the classic car scene around Europe,” says Max Girardo, Managing Director of RM Europe.

Chris Evans is no stranger to RM Auctions, having previously purchased a 1961 Ferrari 250 GTO California Spyder for US$10 million.
