Aston Martin DB5 Goldfinger Continuation: Bond’s most famous ride gets a sequel
And it's been released at 0007 British Summer Time. That's committing to the theme.
Few movie cars are as well-known as the Aston Martin DB5 from Goldfinger. Now, the team at Aston Martin Works is bringing it back in limited numbers.
The (deep breath) Aston Martin DB5 Goldfinger Continuation will be seriously exclusive – just 25 will be produced – and it'll actually have some of the gadgets from the movie car. Developed alongside the special effects supervisor from current Bond films, you get a rotating number plate mount, among other things. We're assuming the ejector seat doesn't work, much like the twin machine guns...
Each example will be finished in Silver Birch paint, in keeping with the original. Aston hasn't disclosed power figures, but the original car made 282hp (210kW) and 380Nm from its 4.0-litre inline-six engine, put to the rear wheels through a five-speed manual transmission. We'd suggest a few choice tweaks will be made, albeit without undermining the car's essential character.
Although it debuted in Goldfinger, the DB5 has featured in multiple James Bond films. Sean Connery featured alongside the car in Thunderball, while Pierce Brosnan took his turn in Tomorrow Never Dies and GoldenEye. Daniel Craig took his turn in Casino Royale, Skyfall, and Spectre.
“The connection between Aston Martin and James Bond is something of which we are very proud and it is remarkable that the DB5 remains the definitive James Bond car after so many years," said Andy Palmer, CEO and president of Aston Martin.
"To own an Aston Martin has long been an aspiration for James Bond fans, but to own a Silver Birch DB5, complete with gadgets and built to the highest standards in the very same factory as the original James Bond cars? Well, that is surely the ultimate collectors’ fantasy."
"The skilled craftspeople at Aston Martin Works and the expert special effects team from the James Bond films are about to make this fantasy real for 25 very lucky customers," he added.
All that heritage doesn't come cheap. You'll pay £2.75 million ($4.8 million) before taxes for a DB5 Goldfinger Continuation, with deliveries to kick off in 2020.
